Shaping the Future
In 1975, the Netherlands was one of the founding members of the European Space Agency (ESA). It is also the host country for ESTEC, ESA's technical center and the largest ESA location where space missions are conceived and developed.
The history of ESTEC, located in Noordwijk, is intertwined with that of the region. This year, in celebration of ESA's 50th anniversary, the Agency will feature a special float in the Flower Parade. To symbolize ESA’s commitment to shaping an ambitious future for Europe in space, the theme of the float will be 50 Years of ESA – Shaping the Future, and the design will include the Ariane 6 rocket, which, together with Vega C, forms Europe’s family of space launch vehicles. Ariane 6 is a versatile and powerful launch vehicle made possible by companies, institutions, and countless individuals across Europe, all working together with expertise and dedication to ensure Europe's autonomous access to space.

SAIL Amsterdam 2025
This year the province of North Holland has chosen to celebrate SAIL Amsterdam with its theme for their float. In addition to the flower parade, the province is also a proud sponsor of SAIL Amsterdam 2025. Both mega events attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from home and abroad and most importantly, they are free of charge. Both events celebrate the rich culture and traditions of Holland.
The Bloemencorso Bollenstreek Flower Parade does this with its amazing floats while SAIL Amsterdam brings maritime history to life with an impressive float of tall ships and other unusual vessels. The iconic canal houses and a charming bridge are featured on the float together with rising above them, the sails of the Tall Ships which sail into Amsterdam during SAIL. The North Holland float is again designed by Inge Quint and the decorators as in previous years are members and friends of the St. Cecilia Harmony Orchestra in Voorhout.

Neptune, the The King of the Sea is also called the ruler of the waves and running water. Our float is inspired by this imposing figure with his ferocious waves of hair. As with the waves in the sea, our group endeavours to stay in motion and represents this literally and figuratively on the float.

Cartoon Characters from Haarlem
Haarlem draws unique attention to the city during the 2025 parade. This year Haarlem’s float is dedicated to the strip cartoonists and their rich history in the city. With iconic figures such as Else, Vos and Haas, as well as Fokke & Sukke, Haarlem’s float honours the unique character of the strip cartoon culture.
The centrepiece on the float is a large colourful sculpture of the strip cartoon characters. The front float brings an ode to Jopo de Pojo, the famous character from Haarlem cartoonist Joost Swarte. This part of the float emphasises the importance of Haarlem as a home base for cartoonists and fans.
Many residents and visitors are probably not aware of the fact that some of the most iconic cartoons originated in Haarlem. This is a chance to take pride in local talent and honour them on a platform with both national and international attention.
If you are a fan of Fokke & Sukke, have youthful sentiment for Vos and Haas (Fox and Hare) or want to see how art and nature come together, this float has something to offer for everyone.

Connection via Hospitality
In Chinese astrology, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, a year of transformation, wisdom and subtlety. The connection between The Netherlands and China is increasing in part due to the growing interest in Chinese traditions such as the tea ceremony.
This ceremonial method of preparing tea stands not only for rust and balance but also for respect and attention to detail matching the Dutch focus on sustainability and authenticity. Here we see Cha Dao, the Chinese tea ceremony in a typical Chinese garden. The sharing of the tea during the ceremony amplifies the community spirit which is becoming increasingly valued in The Netherlands. By pouring the tea and drinking together the host invites the guest and shows hospitality. Nihoa China! Welcome to the hospitable country of China.

The Four Seasons in Hillegom
The tree on Hillegom’s float is a symbol for the 4 seasons. A tree changes with the season and this is shown by the use of colour and the form of the branches. Why a Tree? Well in the municipality of Hillegom there are a number of monumental and unusual trees. These are guarded by a special “tree’’ working group from the Friends of Old Hillegom Foundation.
In the heart of the village is the Wilhelminaboom (Wilhelmina tree) planted to commemorate the coronation of Queen Wilhelmina on 31st August 1998. This ancient tree has stood for almost 130 years throughout all seasons.
Special trees have always played a part in village life. They are considered protectors of families and the community. They are also often planted to honour a special event for instance a coronation as is the case in Hillegom where the tree surrounded by its cast iron railings can be admired in the Hoofdstraat opposite the Maartenskerk church.

Ap(e)tly Proud
Lisse has had swans, lions and even a unicorn as theme on their float and this year it’s the turn of the ape. Everyone can recognise an ape and they appeal to the imagination as they resemble us humans. This theme is also linked to the impending departure of our Mayor Lies Spruit because she is Ap(e)tly Proud of Lisse where she will have been Mayor for 13 years.
Especially for her, there is a throne mounted on the front of the float. The large Ape on the front part of the float has moving eyes which stare at the public as if to say ‘let us look at each other and take care of each other’’.
The tails on the smaller apes meanwhile form a heart, symbolic for the love in Lisse. The Ape’s fur is composed of bulb flowers which have been pinned onto the models by Scouting troop De Shawanos, and the hair on the Apes is made from cut flowers. Beware when the float passes by as you may spot an escaped Ape!
